Hearing Noise Overhead? Your Attic Could Be Playing Host to These Pests

January 20, 2023

How much thought do you give to your attic space? Unless you’ve recently been in and out to store or remove things from it, odds are that you don’t think of it often. The exception is when something seems wrong, as is the case if you’re hearing noise coming from it. That noise could be coming from pests that have made themselves at home in this part of your house.

Rodents

Rodents are common home invaders. Your attic could be the perfect place for them to build their nests, especially in the fall, winter, and early spring when the weather is still cold. Because rodents tend to be more active at night, you’re more likely to hear them overhead when you’re trying to sleep. Apart from creating a distracting noise, rodents like to chew on anything from wood and wires to concrete and insulation. That can create a structural and fire risk in your home. If you see one rodent or signs of a rodent, there are sure to be more. The more there are, the harder it will be to get rid of them. Professional pest control is usually the best solution to a rodent problem.

Bats

Have you seen a bat fly into your attic from outside? Maybe you’ve found a bat in your house before. It’s tempting to dismiss their presence, but that’s a big mistake. As with rodents, if you see one, there are sure to be many others. Bat droppings, also known as guano, are well-known for carrying numerous diseases, including major respiratory illnesses and rabies. Guano can also compress your insulation, preventing it from working efficiently. Professional bat and guano removal are the best and safest option, as guano is quite delicate and becomes airborne with little disruption.

Wasps

Attics tend to be quiet and still most of the time. That, along with the relative warmth and shelter they offer make them attractive to pests like wasps. Having wasps in your attic puts you at risk of getting stung. That’s especially problematic if you or anyone in your household is allergic to wasp stings. As with most pests, professional removal is the safest, most reliable way to go.

You may not think of your attic often, but there are plenty of pests who might. Rodents, bats, and wasps are just some of the pests you could unwittingly be playing host to. Raccoons and spiders may also make themselves a little too much at home in your attic. Don’t discount sounds coming from your attic, especially if you hear them repeatedly. Pest problems will only get worse if left unaddressed.

Ensuring Your Pest Control Is Animal-Friendly
December 1, 2024
Pest control is an essential service for maintaining a healthy and comfortable living environment, but for pet owners, ensuring these services are safe for their animals is equally important. Traditional pest control methods often rely on chemicals that can pose serious health risks to pets. Dogs, cats, and other animals frequently explore their surroundings by sniffing and licking, making them particularly vulnerable to toxic substances. This has led to a significant increase in the demand for pet-friendly pest control solutions, as conscientious pet owners seek to protect their furry companions from harm. A study by the National Pesticide Information Center underscores the potential dangers pesticides pose to pets, highlighting the need for safer alternatives.

Where the health and safety of children are paramount, ensuring a pest-free home environment is a critical concern for many parents. Traditional pest control methods often rely on chemicals that can pose significant health risks, particularly to children, whose developing bodies are more vulnerable to toxins. As awareness of these dangers grows, families are increasingly turning to child-safe pest control solutions that minimize chemical exposure while effectively managing pest issues.
Diseases Carried by Pests Into Your Home
November 10, 2024
Zoonotic diseases are infections that can be transmitted from animals to humans, posing a significant threat to public health worldwide. As urban areas expand and ecosystems are altered by climate change, the interaction between humans and animals intensifies, increasing the risk of zoonotic diseases. Pests such as rodents, mosquitoes, and ticks are key vectors in carrying these diseases into human habitats, facilitating their spread. Understanding the dynamics of zoonotic diseases is crucial in developing effective strategies to protect public health and maintain safe living environments.
